Elginia McCrary is a native of Chesapeake, Virginia and the third of four girls. Her father died when she was fourteen; however, her mother strongly supported her love and desire to become an artist. She attended California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, CA where she received her BFA Degree. She later received her masters at Norfolk State University.
Elginia has been a technical illustrator, a freelance artist, a draftsman, and an art teacher. During these different avenues, she always continued to create her own works of art, which have been displayed throughout the continental USA.
Unlike many artists who are recognized by a particular style or technique, this is not true of the works by Elginia McCrary. Her creations encompass various innovative methods, from her stylized elongated figures, her repousse’ and her one of a kind masks. Each style and technique is distinctively unique from the other yet, when the different styles are put together it can be clearly seen that they are the works of the same artist.
